Turkey has become a popular holiday destination in recent years. The relatively cheap all-inclusive holidays to Turkish seaside resorts have attracted many tourists to the country that connects Europe and Asia. But Turkey has a lot more to offer than Mediterranean beaches and the deep blue sea. It also has extraordinary nature, many historical and cultural treasures and a mix of old and new. All of which makes Turkey an ideal country for your second home.

Living in Turkey

Every region in Turkey is characterised by its own cuisine, holidays and traditions, but the landscape and diverse architecture also gives each region its identity. This makes Turkey a very diverse country where you have the feeling that you enter into a completely new world each time you pass a regional border. Second home owners prefer the south and east coasts. Due to the Mediterranean Sea climate summers are hot and dry,  making the coasts the ideal place for sun, sea and sand.

The property market in Turkey

Turkish property law was adjusted in 2001 making it easier for overseas buyers to purchase a second home in Turkey. From then on more and more Europeans, including Brits, have been buying second homes there. The great demand for second homes stimulated developments in the property market in Turkey. Existing houses increased in value and new houses were built, which means that the average house price in Turkey is still way below European standards. Even luxury villas are still affordable. It is expected that the value of Turkish houses will continue to increase when Turkey enters the European Union.

Due to a change in the property law it was not allowed to issue tapus (deeds of ownership) to overseas buyers. But now a new law has come into force and foreign buyers can buy Turkish property once again. Please find details of the buying process and how to finance your second home here.
